Worship
Christian worship is so much more than singing!
In the Bible, worship isn't just connected with music and singing. Singing is of course a very big part of biblical worship, but so is using all the other faculties we have as human beings: speaking, shouting, thinking, praying, non-verbal emotions, and so on.
This is because worship isn't defined by the method we use, but rather it is us responding to God revealing Himself according to His terms. Worship flows from who God is and what he has done, and our worship can change depending on the aspect of God we're responding to.
This can really help us to know whether or not our worship is genuine. We don't know that our worship is genuine just because we're having strong feelings about something. Instead, we can know our worship is true when our feelings and expressions result from being reminded of and confronted with who God is. There are a lot of possible responses.
More than that, as Christians, we don't just worship God the Father. We're people who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ and given the Holy Spirit, and we are now a part of his family. As a result, one of the biggest things we respond to is Jesus Christ and his work on our behalf. And we can praise the Holy Spirit for his loving presence and guidance in our lives.
Worshipping God in all his fullness is what the church was made for. It's meant to permeate the life of the church and the lives of its members. At Redeemer we want to exalt Christ together continually, starting on Sunday and lasting through the entire week.
Sunday Worship Services
It's this perspective on worship that guides our Sunday worship services. We want to emphasize both truth and emotion; we want to encounter God and worship him with an appropriate response.
Our services are centered around multiple encounters with God in His Word. This will include things like Old Testament and New Testament readings, reading the Psalms responsively, and of course singing.
Songs are a special way of responding to God because of their unique ability to engage both our hearts and minds. The songs we sing range in styles; we sing both "traditional" and "contemporary" styles of music. Lyrically, we sing a lot of historic and modern hymns. Our songs are meant to offer us rich truth to respond to, as well as guide our hearts and minds in the appropriate response.
We're led by musicians in a band format, which includes a wide variety of instruments. The style of music we use to provide the backdrop for each song varies greatly. We try to present each song in a way that will edify and be relevant to our congregation as a whole.
The culmination and high point of Sunday worship is the preaching of God's word. Everything we do in the first part of our service is meant to prepare us for and launch us into the message.
We hope you'll join us some Sunday for our worship service! See our service times page for all the details.
